The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead
Feels timely, but I actually finished it about a week ago before the protests began. I was thinking about it again yesterday though. While it was a wonderful story, I wish it had dealt more deeply with the concept of putting MLK's message to the test and loving your oppressors in the face of brutal violence. Of course, life doesn't always give you the time or the space to work those things out for yourself, and maybe that's the tragedy that the book was trying to address. The more I think about this book, the more I appreciate it.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison
This was just lovely and sweet and positive, which was a nice change from what I usually read. It took me a long time to finish, but I think I liked it even more for all that. I got to spend a lot of time with Maia and really appreciate how sweet and good he is. I was excited to see that Addison has a new book coming out this month.

The Hot Zone by Richard Preson
Popular science is a hit-or-miss genre for me. This one is a hit for sure though. I love learning about the discovery and treatment of disease, it's like a real-life version of a supernatural horror villain. The writing of this book is so simple and straightforward that I've plowed through most of it in the past two or three days.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
I've been listening to the audiobook since March. It's hard to motivate myself when I already know the broad strokes of the plot, but I really love the audiobook narrator and I'm hoping that there may be enough differences that something can take me by surprise.
Up Next
The Binding by Bridget Collins
I got this over a year ago as an ARC and I guess I'm finally getting around to it. :D
The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff
I'm a wary of this because I'm not usually a big fan of journey stories that involve lots of walking and military shit, but I want to watch the movie so I'm going to give it a shot!
