Is the Sunshine Challenge Still Alive?

I believe the mod of sunshine_challenge is inactive. It looks like the comm hasn't updated since 2023. Does anyone know if the challenge is still hosted elsewhere? Or, if not, would people be interested in a reboot? I loved modding the Snowflake Challenge so much, I'd consider picking up the Sunshine Challenge too!

I wanted to participate in the Snowflake Challenge this year because I always watch it go on from afar but I missed it so I was hoping there was another one to do soon... I was so bummed when I noticed the Sunshine Challenge wasn't active TT-TT

Yeah, I thought it sounded so fun! I've never participted in the Sunshine Challenge before but I love summer so just the theme/aesthetics of it makes me happy :D

I'd like to see the Sunshine Challenge get rebooted or reawoken. I never got to participate in it, but it seems fun to have a summer version of the Snowflake Challenge.

It was not active last year. I tried prodding the moderator with no luck. I would love to see it revived.

If you need help with prompts, I'm good at that. It has traditionally been a thematic batch. Also we have a massive cache of them over on allbingo from previous events, many of which are stored on the Bingo Card Generator if you don't want to dig through previous fests.

I'm also happy to help with spreading the word.

I checked the profile, and posting is set to Select Members only. That means you'll need to start a new community, maybe something like Sunshine_Challenge2 or Sunrise_Challenge. If you set posting to All Members or Everyone, then it can be carried on even if the original creator leaves. Also you can set more than one moderator so folks can share the workload, and it's less likely that ALL of them will vanish.

I suggest keeping a list of people who offer to help, and what they say they can do, so you don't have to dig through old posts looking for that information.

Even though I’m not a fic writer or particularly fannish, I think this would be a lovely way to generate more community on Dreamwidth and more inspiration personally.

July is a good time for me too! I was bummed to think the challenge might not happen, but it seems like enough people might be interested that it's worth reviving.

Yes, Sunshine Challenge is in July. If you're interested, I created a new comm for it this year: sunshine_revival. We haven't created the schedule yet but it will probably be similar to previous years where there were 7 challenges throughout the month and they were mostly prompts for journal posts like "promote your fandom" or "create a fan work" - things like that.

I'd be interested in the reboot - the one thing that could be an issue is getting access to the original community as there's only the former mod with admin rights (the original mod had been reluctant to give full admin rights to anyone else as apparently someone had completely deleted another community in the past. While it was suggested making someone a co-admin a couple of years ago, there weren't any takers at the time and it came to nothing) so it might end up being a case of it being hosted somewhere else.

Having helped out with it in the past, I'd be happy to help with it again, although there are a few dates in July when I'm on holiday and will be online a lot less.

Thanks for that input! I noticed the original mod was the only admin, which is unfortunate. Are you still able to access the sunshine_challenge_mods community? I'm curious if there's anything in there that would be helpful in planning the new round.

I can still view the old entries (just can't post to it) so yes I can help with that - there's guidelines for comment mods, brainstorming for themes/wording of challenge posts.

In the past the original mod had been the one to post all the challenges to the comm, (everyone else would pick one from the agreed seven prompts and draft the wording, and then would help with the commenting on participants' posts) - don't know whether you'd want to carry on that way or to have it more like Snowflake with more people being able to post the challenges?

The days I'm away in Edinburgh and less online are 3rd to 7th July, but at the moment I'm around for all the rest of the summer (will let you know if that changes - there's talk of a possible family party at one point but that might fall on a weekend that won't affect the challenge).
