2019 Reading Resolutions

I made a few 2019 book-related resolutions, so I thought I'd share them here!

1. Finish reading all the series that I've started and then put down

My main resolution! I have a bunch of series that I've read a few books in, but haven't finished completely. I'd like to get a few of them wrapped up, because I'm a completionist when it comes to reading and I don't like having so many loose threads! Some of the series are:



• The Rai-Kirah trilogy by Carol Berg (1 book left)


• The Alchemy Wars Trilogy by Ian Tregillis (1 book left)


• A Land Fit for Heroes by Richard K. Morgan (1 book left)


• The Chronicles of Tornor by Elizabeth A. Lynn (2 books left)


• Warchild series by Karin Lowachee (2 books left)


• The Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling (3 books left)




2. Read books that I already own

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but I do really desperately need to clear out some space on my bookshelves.


3. Finish 2019 with my TBR pile smaller than it was at the beginning of the year

My TBR (as determined by Goodreads) was at 134 at the beginning of 2019. My goal is to be diligent about reading things that have been languishing on there for a while. Hopefully by the end of the year my list will be significantly shorter than it was at the beginning. One of my chief reasons for wanting to do this is to have more flexibility in reading new releases as they come out (without feeling guilty about neglecting all the things I've already committed myself to reading - and yes I know that I have the freedom to read whatever I want and don't need to feel guilty but I like making goals and sticking to them).

I also intend to finally read several books that I own - not even because of the bookshelves, just because it feels a bit silly to buy new ones when I haven't even read the ones I own.

Yeah, I think that's part of it for me too. Although I end up buying a lot of books and then reading the ebook versions from Scribd or the library anyway. :D

My goal: Read more of my books slowly. I skim too much.

That's a great goal! My level of skimming depends a lot on how into a book I am though, so I guess for me that would just mean picking books that are more to my taste.

My reading goal is: read. It sounds silly but I got out of the habit for various reasons

That doesn't sound silly to me! That was actually my goal three years ago, and it got me back into reading. Now I'm reading a ton, so I'd say that's a great place to begin! :)
