What is Daily Review? I subscribe to a service that allows me to save articles from across the web. As I read, I try to make notes and highlights. It's part of my goal of being less of a consumer and more of a creator (I can talk about that in another post). The service also stores my highlights and sends me 5 random quotes that I've highlighted every day to review. I thought it might be interesting to post them here and reflect on them a little bit.
10 ways to be prepared and grounded now that Trump has won by Daniel Hunter
I've been seeing a lot of people responding to this second Trump term with a more grassroots, community-building type of resistance. Instead of protests and shaking fists at the sky, people, including myself, are realizing that perhaps the most effective strategy to resist is Direct Action. We need to build trust within our local communities. I'm very interested in examining how the retreat inside our single-family homes has affected our society. A retreat that is lately exacerbated by the pandemic. I think maybe as humans we actually need face-to-face connections to be happy and healthy.

I've been thinking a lot about social engineering lately and how so much of not just what we think buthow we think, and especially how we perceive the people around us, is not organic. I suspect we're all influenced by a much greater degree than we realize. That's why I try to question all my judgements and impulses - I want to examine them and see what biases or external influences could be shaping my thoughts. How can we do this? I guess I try to get outside my own bubble and listen to people with different perspectives. In person people. Not twitter people or reddit people. (Dreamwidth people get a pass because this place is special!)
Boeing Launches $19 Billion Share Sale to Boost Liquidity by Julie Johnsson
I've made it a personal project to track what I call "airline industry rot" because I think it's the perfect case study for late stage capitalism. This article in particular is about the shameful place that Boeing now finds itself in due to decades of hollowing out in favor of making rich investors richer. I need to write more about this because I have so many thoughts about the airline industry and the sorry state that it's now in.
In the Fight Against Tyranny, Don't Let Your Happiness Depend on Big Wins by Caitlin Johnstone
I actually really needed this reminder today. I read Chris Hedges' Letter to Refaat Alareer and I was pretty much crying for like an hour. It's hard to remember sometimes that being unhappy about the state of the world, while completely justified, is actually not the most productive. Let yourself find happiness and use that energy to fight tooth and nail.

This was an interesting point Heather Cox Richardson was making about how Trump is going to have a really hard time retaining his base if he toes the party line and executes a *Republican* agenda instead of a *MAGA* agenda, which are two VERY different things. I've seen some left-wing people who are cautiously optimistic about some of the MAGA policies that Trump supposedly supports which happen to also be pretty popular on the left (such as DOGE cutting the military budget). My money is on Trump not doing anything the left will like and sticking 100% with the old-school Republican priorities of cutting taxes for the rich, subsidizing the military-industrial complex with our tax dollars, and trampling all over the rights of minorities. But I guess we'll see.

Following Trump’s win: Get some people to regularly touch base with. Use that trust to explore your own thinking and support each other to stay sharp and grounded.

Putin’s long-term goal of weakening the U.S. has made him more interested in dividing Americans than in any one candidate.

Boeing shares fell about 1% in pre-market US trading. They have slumped more than 40% this year.

By not allowing yourself to be happy, you’re not helping the needful, you’re just depriving the world of that much happiness.

Trump won the election in part by promising everything to everyone, but the actual policies of the MAGA party are unpopular, even with many Republican voters.
