Overall my tastes run toward the dark and angsty, but since this is Yuletide and it’s a rather stressful situation in the world at large, I’m feeling in the mood for cozy, happy, found-family focused stories. Of course, my heart will never say no to something dark. What I’m trying to say is, I’m pretty easy to please. :D

Oh boy, I love these books SO much. Azil Aumson is basically everything I love in a literary character: quiet, thoughtful, brave, competent, loyal, and tormented by the past. My OTP for this series is 100% Karadur/Azil. If you haven’t read the sequel, Dragon’s Treasure, you should definitely do it; it’s wonderful. I’ve written the first several prompts based on Dragon’s Winter only, so they won’t require knowledge of the events of Dragon’s Treasure. The only thing that I’ll mention is that there is explicit confirmation of Azil and Karadur’s relationship in the second book. It was more subtle in Dragon’s Winter, so I think some people read the book and never saw them as a couple. But it’s stated outright in Dragon’s Treasure, and confirmed multiple times. So yeah, stick with that interpretation please, because I love them together so much. If you have read Dragon’s Treasure, I’ve added a second group of prompts that include characters and situations from that book as well.
It’s never fully explained how Azil escaped from the Black Citadel. I’d love to know more about this. Was he let go by Tenjiro so that he could act as a spy? Did he finally manage a successful escape attempt? Was Gorthas involved? How did it happen?
In Chapter 13 Azil and Karadur go together to inform Thea’s family of her and Wolf’s death. Karadur is obviously extremely upset; he loses his temper and throws Rogys into a wall. What happens on the ride? What does the conversation with Thea’s family look like? I think Azil is a great grounding presence for Karadar, and I’d love to see him calming Karadur down from his rage.
Or on a happier note: I would adore a scene of lighthearted sweetness between Karadur and Azil or Azil and his mother. If you want to set it before the events of the book, that would be really cool. I would love to see a younger and more carefree Azil. Or if you wanted to set it after they return from the Citadel that’s cool too. Let Azil have some joy in spite of all that he’s suffered.
Show me Azil and Juni Talvela traveling together after they leave Dragon Keep. If you want to explore why they left and where they’re heading that would be amazing, but I would be just as happy with some sweet moments of Azil teaching Juni music and Juni being protective of Azil. If Karadur shows up, either by mention or in person, I wouldn’t mind! Maybe someone at one of the places they stop at tells them about the letters that Karadur sent out asking for hospitality for Azil and Juni.
However you envision Maia fitting into Karadur and Azil’s relationship, I’d like to see it. Maybe a poly situation where Azil slowly starts to develop feelings for Maia, or perhaps Maia is more of a friend and co-parent after Azil and Karadur are reunited (which I’m just taking for granted will happen!). However you do it, please keep Karadur and Azil as deeply committed lovers, and please no Maia-bashing. I’d like to think there are ways that they can all be happy together.
Since Shem is heading out on the road as well, it would be interesting if he and his aunt came across Azil and Juni. Maybe they meet by chance at an inn or maybe Shem can sense them and tracks them down. It would be interesting to see Azil explaining to Shem why he isn’t with Karadur, and maybe Shem convinces him to go back?
I’ve loved Fedeles since his first appearance in LotWH, but I’m so especially excited about his story/arc in Master of Restless Shadows. I ship him hard with Ariz, of course, but I also adore his relationship with Oasia. I see their marriage as a tight friendship with mutual social benefits, rather than a romantic partnership. I tend to imagine they’re both probably finding romantic love outside of their marriage, and I like the idea of them both acknowledging and being happy with that. However, I’m open to other interpretations! If you want to write 3TP with Fedeles/Ariz/Oasia or gen-fic with Fedeles, or Fedeles/Ariz with Oasia unaware or disapproving that’s also interesting to me! The only thing I would prefer not to see is Oasia-bashing. IF she’s upset about Fedeles’s extramarital activity, I’d like to see her portrayed sympathetically.
Anything about Fedeles from Ariz’s point of view. I loved every scene in the book where Ariz is crushing hard on Fedeles and just admiring him from afar. More of this would be lovely. I deeply appreciate self-loathing Ariz and his intense longing for what he sees as Fedeles’s carefree life.
Scenes between Fedeles and Ariz, especially if you wanted to touch on Fedeles’s own fears and insecurities. Maybe he’s sharing with Ariz how the effects of his possession have scarred him. Or maybe Fedeles loses control of his powers and Ariz helps calm him down.
I would love to see Fedeles having a vague memory of Ariz having red hair and convincing Ariz to wash the dye out. Basically anything that Fedeles does to help Ariz come out of his shell and be more confident would be excellent.

It would be cool to see Fedeles navigating social life after his possession was lifted. How did he deal with people having to reevaluate their understanding of who he had been for many years. Does he remember who treated him well and who was cruel to him while he was possessed?
I just finished reading Dragon Blood, and I’m full of love for pretty much every character in the series! I requested Oreg, but feel free to include anyone else as well and/or to ship him with anyone you prefer. I haven’t really developed any shipping preferences in this fandom yet. Convince me of your Oreg OTP. :) I’m also a sucker for pain and angst, so Oreg backstory will probably make me giddy.
Any Oreg ship-fic, honestly. Maybe Oreg casually using magic to impress a crush? Or taking someone for a ride on his back to a private spot in the mountains?

Maybe a Gift of the Magi style holiday gifting situation? Feel free to include any characters in this scenario, for example: Ward, Tisala, Tosten, Garannon, Kellen, Ciarra, or any combination.
Any scene set during Dragon’s Bone from Oreg’s point of view. Bonus points if there are allusions to dark backstory events that Oreg is suppressing the memories of. Extra bonus points if you want to show Oreg’s thought process on how he gradually begins to trust Ward, especially if you can show how Ward’s resemblance to his father makes it difficult for Oreg at first.

If you want to, feel free to take it in the direction of Oreg feeling especially protective of her because of his own history with torture and rape. Or Garannon asks Oreg for advice on how long it takes for freedom to feel real. I don’t know, but if you make it dark, with hopeful undertones, I’ll certainly love it.
